ABC's OF STYLE: O is for Ombre

(My daughter is just about the sweetest thing since bubblegum.
She also happens to be about the shyest kid you will ever meet. The one who always stands off to the side taking it all in from a glance and whose lip trembles when she is forced to speak.
No exaggeration here, I have family and friends who haven't heard a peep from her in years!
I have convinced her to partake in a little photographic exercise in self-confidence this summer and since she is indulging her mother, it would be just super if you did too!)

O is for Ombre
The trendy city cousin of the summer tie-dye you fell in love with at camp that is sophisticated enough to go from the office to a rooftop patio with an ease that says 'summer is finally here'.
For me, it has always been reminder of the sun-kissed manes you imagine on those California girls who live and breathe the beach!

HOW TO BEHAVE HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE: Don't Clip Your Toenails in Public

To the visitor clippping his toenails in my backyard.
We are close but not that close and quite frankly, no one wants to be that close to anyone while toenails are flying about!
I thought I was hearing things. That distinct sound of metal cutting through nail was momentarily piercing against the quiet of a lazy afternoon. I continued preparing coffee for your visit, hoping that what I was hearing through the open window was a figment of my imagination, maybe a crafty squirrel engaged in target practice with a miniature bibi gun or something equally ridiculous. But as I walked out back carrying my tray, I realized that my imagination hadn't fooled me at all. There you were, just you and your nail clipper, basking in the sun. Maybe it was the look of utter bewilderment on my face or maybe you just came to your senses but thankfully you finished with your pinky toe, slipped the clipper back into your pocket and your foot back into your sandal. Nevertheless, I thanked the good Lord above for that small mercy.

It's something that shouldn't surprise any of us yet I find myself floored on too many occasions by the sight of people whipping out a nail clipper in public and having at their feet. That goes double for the lady who sat in a waiting room beside me earlier this week and decided to slip off her sandals, lift her feet up onto her chair and vigorously clear the what-not from between her toes.
I don't care how busy you are at home-the subway, a park bench, your desk and especially while visiting a friend is not where you should be grooming yourself in that manner. I could go on and on but I think this one is pretty basic.

NEVER clip your nails (finger or otherwise) in public.

THE COCKTAIL HOUR: The French Martini

I'm lifting a martini glass in the air today and not just because the weekend is well on it's way but because it's National Martini Day and I can't think of a better reason to celebrate!
James Bond might have been a big fan of the classic dry Martini but unfortunately, it has a habit of leaving my face with a bit of a grimace so I opt for something a little sweeter, a colourful combination with a hint of fruit and a whole lot of bubbly.
So this weekend, take out your fanciest Martini glasses (or go rogue and use a whimsical liqueur glass like they did at The Weslodge Saloon in downtown Toronto where I happened upon this drink in the first place) and toast to one of my very favourite 'Lemontree-approved' holidays!

The French Martini

1 1/2 oz Champagne
1/4 oz Chambord® raspberry liqueur
1/4 ozfresh pineapple juice
1 twist lemon peel

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add Champagne, pineapple juice and Chambord. Shake well and pour into Martini glass.
Garnish with lemon peel.
