THE ROYAL PARADE: What to Expect When The Duchess is Expecting

Now that our darling Duchess of Cambridge has left the London hospital where she was treated for an absolutely horrid form of acute morning sickness and is now resting comfortably back at the palace, we can get down to the really pressing business of wondering with excitement what she will wear for the next nine months!
Since Buckingham Palace has stated that she will be out of the public eye at least until the new year we can ponder at leisure as to what sartorial path the expecting Duchess will take. While she has favoured structured pieces for day in the past, I have a feeling the down-to-earth duchess might veer towards looser separates that still keep her on trend. As for the wedges she seems to love, I am absolutely positive they will stick around for a while, possibly up to the very end when we just might see the Duchess trading in her standbys for the comfortable stability of a modern flat, maybe ballet or smoking.
Depending on what her royal duties will come to during her pregnancy, we might catch a glimpse or two of the Duchess in evening wear that I don't expect to vary greatly from what she has donned in the past. I have always found Mrs. Cambridge's evening gowns to have a floaty essence to them. Add a waistline that has been hiked up a notch to an empire level and we might just be seeing very similar looks that we have come to know and love from the future Queen of England.
In the off chance that, like many other mothers before her, she finds herself a little bewildered with how to dress the royal (and constantly expanding!) belly, she can always look to her royal contemporaries.
These 21st century princesses (and a Queen) all seemed to keep their stylish royal wits about them while pregnant with the heirs and their spares but who do you think wins the crown for most impressive princess in waiting style?

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark
( this lovely lady who will one day be Queen of Denmark wins our vote for pregnancy perfection!)

Queen Rania of Jordan

Crown Princess Mathilde of Belgium

Crown Princess Letizia of Spain

Crown Princess Maxima of The Netherlands

Princess Marie of Denmark

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway

Of course, what peek at maternity wear-princess style would be complete without a look at the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
She was a sweet peach, wasn't she!!

  1. I am sure she will look amazing because her style is awesome!

  2. I am sure she will look amazing! Love her style:)

  3. Lucie,
I am with you on this one, she is one stylish lady!!

  4. Seriously, who leaves the hospital like that??? Who??? I'd like to, for one moment, see her half scruffy or with her hair tossed into a pony tail or something... She will look fantastic as always... Looking back on Princess Di... I'm so glad maternity clothes have made such progress!

  5. You're right. She probably will have to alter her style somewhat, but I'm sure she will look fantastic!
    Great post!

  6. The Entertaining House,
I can't begin to tell you what I looked like when I left the hospital after having a baby, definitely not photo-ready like the Duchess!

  7. Elizabeth (Ms Classic Glamour),
She always looks so lovely, hopefully the morning sickness won't be an issue for her for too long, I know firsthand how it can really suck the joy out of pregnancy!

  8. Truly a wonderful post of women "in waiting" even though they are Royal. All are classic in their choices. can't wait to see Kate's choices. xo HHL

  9. Her style will be, in one word, custom! She definately should consult Crown Princess Mary of Denmark too - three pregnancies, the last of which was twins.

  10. I also suspect we'll see her engagement and wedding rings come off, and appendages tend to swell during pregnancy. At the time I think she had them made to fit snuggly.

  11. Dearest Anastasia,
Love Queen Rania the most; she looks royal, even in waiting. Certainly Kate will look adorable too; as always. By the way, it is Princess Máxima and not Crown Princess... She married the Dutch Crown Prince William.

  12. I've never been much of royal watcher, but I did absolutely adore Princess Diana, and I LOVE Kate Middleton's style. I'm sure she's gonna make maternity look just as fashionable as EVER!

  13. Mariette,
the darling Maxima is indeed the Crown Princess of The Netherlands. The title 'Crown Princess' is not reserved for those born into the position of royal heir to the throne but also for spouses who have married the royal heir and will one day be Queen of that country. The only time it would not be used is if for whatever reason, the spouse would not claim the title of Queen when her husband ascended to the throne or if the heir gives up their claim to succession.
