T minus 30 days to the big royal wedding and I have to admit that even I, who decided on that awful August night in 1997 that my infatuation with the British royal family had come to an end, have developed an interest in the young royals that goes beyond what the ladies happen to be wearing today. What has caused my interest to peak once again? The newest royal lady-to-be of course, Meghan Markle.
And I have to say, I like her, I really do. Put aside what you read from so-called close 'sources' and take her for what she signifies, a new breath of fresh air for the British royal family. She's an energetic, young, fashionable Millennial, ready and able to take on her new role as royal ambassador, philanthropist and charitable do-gooder (we never run out of a need for those types).
The Hollywood angle just brings added attention to whatever cause she decides to back which is a good thing, trust me on that. There are many, many individuals who give their life's blood for honourable causes we should know and care about but we never do.
Unfortunately in this society, the one we have all have a hand in creating, we look towards the flashing lights, super bright smiles and fancy-pants lifestyles of the famous. Our eyes are drawn to them, for good or for bad, so if I have to choose between being inundated with media of some plastic bimbo peddling her latest lip-plumping gloss or a glamorous young woman who might possibly do a little good for old Planet Earth, I don't think it's a struggle to figure out who is worthy of a gaze or two.
And really what's not to like about Meghan Markle? This gal exudes personality, drive and diversity and it's all wrapped up in a pretty glam package, one that has been know to focus on health and wellness which finally brings me to the main purpose for this PSA on the future royal (not that she needs any help from me 😄)
I've first heard about MM's famous coconut smoothie in 2015 when she was interviewed by The Chalkboard for their Living Well series (check out the interview here). Although I didn't give it a go back then (I'm not much of a smoothie person), I stumbled across the interview again since she made it official with Prince Harry and I thought since her suggestion for this supplement was life changing for me (no exaggeration, I finally started sleeping again), I'd try out the smoothie that everyone is talking about these days.
It helped that I had all of the nutritional pow-wow ingredients in my kitchen already. I've been on a big cinnamon kick lately (super for fighting inflammation) so I had no excuses not to throw it and everything else into my mixer and hit start. (FYI, the first time I made it I used the protein shake powder my husband had been using but since then I picked up the one MM uses and definitely prefer it.)
And you know what? It tasted pretty darn good! I'm a big coconut fan so I was really hoping that this would tickle my tastebuds and I wasn't let down in the least! I even find myself craving it when I am away from home and that is coming from 'not much of a smoothie person' so you know this isn't just jive, this stuff is really yummy!
1 packet of your shake powder of choice
½ cup of frozen blueberries
1 tsp of cinnamon
some chia seeds
½ cup almond milk
½ cup of coconut water
Blend all ingredients in a mixer and enjoy!
