STYLE :: The Muse / Emerald, Denim and Katie Holmes

I have been absolutely obsessed this summer with finding the perfect denim dress.
A delightful little chambray frock that can take me all over town and back much like the one Katie Holmes was spotted in when she visited Chelsea Piers in New York City with little Suri Cruise.

DECOR :: An Industrial Loft Gets Tickled Pink!

I have never been a fan of industrial lofts, the look strikes me as a little too cold and severe. Not at all what I envisioned when I thought of an inviting home atmosphere...until a recent visit at the divine bellaMumma blog where I came across this stunning Barcelona loft dressed in the most delightful hues of pink!
Everything from the stainless steel counters to the stark white walls are somehow made to feel softer and more enticing with strategically placed shades of cotton candy, cerise and magenta.
And if you could truly fall in love with an inanimate object, I would run away with that pink retro fridge in a heartbeat!

The Shoe Journals: Tales of The Well-Dressed Foot (07/24)

Dear Diary,
As long as I can remember, I have had the hardest time getting out of bed on Sunday mornings. My desire to lounge around slowly bidding the Sandman good bye has always been a bit of an issue with my 'up with the birds' husband. I have tried to explain to him that there is just no get up and go as they say, the thought of getting myself presentable and out the door seems like an absolute Goliath task and it must be taken in slow, lingering steps! I always marvel at women who I spy looking fabulous in the early hours of the morning, be it Sunday or any other day.
So you can imagine why I am always so pleasantly delighted when I come across a group of lovely ladies every Sunday morning who meet for breakfast at their usual spot after church. It always amazes me to see them so lively and fabulously put-together! Last Sunday, one of the lovelies (who just so happens to always have a darling pair of shoes on) was sporting an adorable pair of red flats that caught my eye immediately. A flash of red in just the right spot can add a touch of whimsy to any outfit and who ever said that one has to look stern and severe to hear the golden words spoken!

                                                                       Sincerely,
                                                                                        The Well-Dressed Foot

At The Table: Curried Pork and Cheddar Hot Dogs

As promised yesterday on The Shoe Diary, here is the recipe for one of the most delicious variations of the 'dog' that I have ever tried.
Curry is an acquired taste but the great thing I have figured out about this recipe is that it tastes delicious even when you use less of the curry than it suggests (for those of you who have not given curry a try, this might be the way to dip your feet so to speak!)

Curried Pork and Cheddar Hot Dogs

1 1/2 lbs lean ground pork
1 egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 1/2 tbsp curry
2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
salt and freshly ground pepper
1 1/4 cups Aged Canadian Cheddar, diced
2 tsp honey
6-8 pita breads (or hot dog buns)
2 cups baby spinach
6-8 tomato slices

Pre-heat grill to medium heat (or if cooking indoors heat your oven to 425* F). In a bowl, mix together the ground pork, egg, breadcrumbs, curry and cilantro. Season with your mixture with a little salt and pepper to preferred taste and let it sit in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to let all the flavours to develop.
Divide your mixture into 6-8 portions and shape into frankfurter-like cylinders, making sure they will fit into a hot dog bun. Place on grill and cook for about 10-12 minutes each.
During this grilling time, place a large square of aluminium foil on a work surface and cover the first square with a piece of parchment paper, cut to similar size. Place the cheddar and honey in the center of the parchment paper and cover with a second square of aluminium foil. Seal the sides tightly and place on grill for about 5 minutes.
Heat your buns or pitas and fill them with your grilled dogs, topping them off with the cheddar/honey mixture, tomatoes and spinach.

The Shoe Journals: Tales of the Well-Dressed Foot (07/18)

Dear Diary,
the heat has made me lazier than usual, especially around dinnertime! I seem to be doing anything I can to avoid my usual 5:00pm rendezvous with the old pots and pans. Last night was no exception but how lucky did I get when my husband arrived home and announced there was something new he wanted to try grilling (absolutely scrumptious Curried Pork and Cheddar Hot Dogs which will be posted later today)I am positive my neighbours down the block could hear my squeals of  'Hallelujah'!
He had already picked up everything he needed and the last words I heard were "I've got everything under control tonight" before I mixed myself a little drink, slipped on my new Converse skimmers and ran outside faster than you can blink!

                                                                                       Sincerely,
                                                                                                             The Well-Dressed Foot

5 Delighful Places to Visit In.....Texas with Diane Gottsman

If your only mental image of Texas involves western boots and longhorns, you may be surprised to learn that there is much more to Texas, three of the top ten biggest cities in the United States are here in Texas. Texas offers cosmopolitan adventures, culinary delights, historic treasures, inviting public spaces and even wonderful beaches. We're also a warm (hot!) getaway when it gets chilly up north.
Here are five delightful places you may visit if you ever come to Texas!

1. Hey Cupcake, Austin
Austin has so much to recommend: a vibrant, non-stop live music scene; a plethora of ways to enjoy the outdoors, from kayaking just south of downtown on Lady Bird Johnson Lake (formerly Town Lake) to taking a dip in the natural spring-fed, always cool Barton Springs Pool, to hiking one of the city's many nature trails. You'll also find excellent food and shopping finds that range from the funky to the fabulous. But for me, the icing on the cake is a visit to this airstream trailer bakery that creates cupcakes that are out of this world.

2. Pearl Brewery and the Museum Reach, San Antonio
This former brewery on the banks of the San Antonio River has been repurposed, remade and reborn as one of San Antonio's most appealing and progressive destinations. The Culinary Institute of America is located here, along with a year-round Saturday farmers market and amazing restaurants. Head down to the river and go for a walk along this rejuvenated stretch of the San Antonio River; known as the Museum Reach, it's actually an extension of the famed San Antonio River Walk. Enjoy the beautiful landscaping, creative public art installations and river taxis that take visitors between the Pearl and downtown.

3. South Padre Island
South Padre is not a city that happens to have a beach, it's a beach with enough city around it to cater to your every whim. The island boasts the best beaches in Texas -- natural, white, fine-sand beaches that meet the balmy blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. If you're motivated to venture beyond the beach, you'll find a lot to do whether you're on a romantic weekend, a girlfriend getaway or a family vacation. Get up close and personal with sea turtles, dolphins and migrating birds; go surfing or kite boarding; take a romantic sunset dinner cruise; or take the kids for a ride on a replica of a pirate ship.

4. Highland Park Village, Dallas
This upscale Mediterranean Spanish-style shopping center is actually a National Historic Landmark; its groundbreaking design is the prototype for shopping centers all around the country. But I love it for the amazing shopping (shops include Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, Stella McCartney) and dining (my favorite is the Mexican restaurant, Mi Cocina, which hits all the right notes with its margaritas, classic Tex-Mex cuisine and a great atmosphere).

5. The Missions National Park, San Antonio
This is where San Antonio began about 300 years ago with the creation of these missions, or church-centered towns to colonize what was then a wild frontier. The four mission churches are still active Catholic parishes, with regularly scheduled services; no matter what your religious beliefs, you'll be moved during a mass in one of these historic churches. Stroll through the grounds of each mission (free guided tours are offered at each) or see all four by way of the paved hike and bike trail that follows the San Antonio River.
