Did you know...

1. She was born on December 20, 1898 in Louisville, Kentucky.
2. She graduated from the Chicago Music College with high honors in 1926.
3. In 1938, she adopted her only child with her husband Dr. Frank Griffin from the New York Foundling Hospital, who she named Mary Frances.
4. She claimed that her secret for always looking young was her insistence on getting enough sleep. Her studio contracts were specifically drawn up with the stipulation that she could start work as late as 10am and leave by 6pm, to accommodate for her sleep schedule.
5. She was personally selected by Walt Disney to christen the Mark Twain stern-wheel riverboat for the official opening of Disneyland, July 17, 1955. The bottle she used to christen the riverboat was filled with water from major rivers across the United States.
6. She was named to Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1958.
