THE COCKTAIL HOUR: A Toast to Thanksgiving!

As a gal who is always on the quest for the 'perfect holiday experience', I will admit that the days leading up to a big holiday are a tad stressful for me. The only way I've been able to balance that pre-holiday turmoil I create for myself is to prep, plan and organize every last detail, from which cloth napkins I will use to seating plans which keep certain relatives away from other certain relatives who only need to be an arm's length away to begin 'debating' everything and anything.
The key to a perfect holiday affair at the Lemontree home? Strategic pre-holiday planning...and if all else fails, a fab cocktail in your right hand!
We've featured a few of our favourite Thanksgiving-themed libations, guaranteed to keep even the most stressed hostess humming 'Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be' all day long!
Here's to a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Pumpkin Martini
½ oz. cream liqueur
2 oz. vanilla flavoured vodka
1 oz. canned pumpkin puree
whipped cream
Garnish: cinnamon stick
Shake together cream liqueur, vodka, and ice. Add the pumpkin puree, and shake again. Strain into a martini glass. Top with a touch of whipped cream, and garnish with cinnamon stick.

Autumn Harvest
1 1/4 ounce Bourbon
3/4 parts cherry liqueur
1 dash Fee Brothers Old Fashioned Aromatic Bitters
1 ounce Milk Stout Beer
Fresh nutmeg
Combine bourbon, cherry liqueur and bitters in a mixing glass. Add ice and shake. Gently roll in the milk stout beer. Strain into an old fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg and cherry on top.

Cranberry Ginger Martini
2 tsp. grated ginger
8 cranberries (fresh or frozen)
4 oz. cranberry vodka
Splash of lime juice
Splash of cranberry juice
Splash of simple syrup (see below)
Splash of Sprite
Garnish: lemon twist
Muddle ginger and cranberries in a shaker. Add ice, vodka, both juices, and simple syrup. Shake well. Strain into a martini glass, and add Sprite. Garnish with lemon twist.

Smashing Pumpkin
2 oz. vanilla flavoured vodka
1 tbsp. pumpkin puree
1 oz. cream
1 tsp. simple syrup (see below)
cinnamon sticks for garnish
Put everything into a cocktail shaker. Add ice, and shake. Pour into a glass over ice, and garnish with cinnamon stick.

The Grand Thanksgiving
1 1/4 ounces orange flavored vodka

1/4 ounces Grand Marnier

1/4 ounces fresh lemon juice
Ginger Ale

Pour orange flavoured vodka, Grand Marnier and fresh lemon juice into rocks glass over ice.
Top off with ginger ale, stir gently and garnish with orange peel.

Apple Car
1 1/4 ounce brandy (we recommend Cavados)
1/2 ounce orange flavoured liqueur like Triple Sec or Cointreau
3/4 ounce lemon juice
Fill a shaker with ice cubes. Add all ingredients. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
(Applejack can replace the brandy if that is your preference. We have tried both and preferred the brandy version but many swear by the Applejack version!)

*Easy Paesy Simple Syrup*
Dissolve one part sugar to one part boiling water. Stir and let cool before using.
