THE COCKTAIL HOUR :: A Toast to the 4th!

I have always envied the way Americans observe their holidays, particularly the 4th of July. Such patriotism and celebration tickles me to no end! Canadians are a little more, let's just say 'subdued' with holidays and celebrating their country. We sure could take a lesson from our neighbours to the south on the matter of patriotic celebration, that is for sure!
Even these 4th of July themed cocktails make me want to stand at attention and wave the old Stars and Stripes.
Let's start off the revelry with a little red, white and blue, shall we??!!

Red, White, and Blue Sangria
Strawberries, sliced
Pineapple, cut into star shapes
2 bottles dry white wine
1 cup Triple Sec
1/2 Cup berry-flavored vodka
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup simple syrup
Combine the ingredients in a large pitcher and stir. Chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours

Fourth of July
1 oz watermelon schnapps
1 big splash cranberry juice
1 very thin slice jalapeno or Serrano pepper
1 slice lemon
1 slice lime
1 1/2 oz tequila
1/4 ounce blue curacao
1/2 oz simple syrup
watermelon wedge for garnish (optional)
Mix the schnapps and cranberry juice in a shaker and pour into an ice-filled glass.
Muddle the jalapeno pepper, lemon and lime slices, tequila, blue curacao and simple syrup (to make a batch, dissolve sugar in equal parts hot water and chill) in the shaker. Slowly strain into the glass over the red layer. Garnish with watermelon, if desired.

Broad Stars and Stripes
1/4 oz Lucid Absinthe
1 oz Blueberry Vodka
1/4 oz Simple Syrup
Splash of Lemon Juice
Drizzle of Raspberry Liqueur
Ginger beer
Fresh Blueberries
Muddle fresh blueberries and add syrup, absinthe, lemon juice and vodka.
Add ice and shake, then pour into highball glass.
Drizzle Liqueur and top with Ginger Beer.
Garnish with one sugar cube.

American Dream
1 oz PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur
1 oz black cherry rum
1 1/2 oz POM Wonderful pomegranate cherry juice
1/2 oz fresh sour
white fondant stars for garnish
blueberries for garnish
Cut mini stars out of white fondant.
Using water, gently wet the back of each star and press into the inside of a cocktail glass.
Let sit for 5 minutes.
Fill a mixing glass with all ingredients and add ice.
Shake well and strain into the star studded cocktail glass.
Garnish with blueberries on a cocktail pick.
