Not only was he one of the worst governors California had up to that time (many have tied or surpassed him since then) but I feel his presidency was a sham. He was great at saying his lines, he gave the impression he was a "real American" much like John Wayne, and he coalesced the GOP into a solid party. They still think he's a god. He drove our economy into double digit inflation, lied about Iran Contra, kept the "communist" fear going and was subsidized in his personal life by wealthy friends like the Bloomingdales, Annenbergs, etc. He and Nancy's ranch and Palisades home were purchased with the largesse of wealthy friends seeking influence.
